I traveled to San Diego last weekend to visit family and friends. During the trip I took a long pause where the water meets the sand. This is one of my all time favorite beaches. Enjoy!

Every time I rode my bike pass this thing I would look across the river while wondering how I could get to it and more importantly how I would photograph it. Finally one day I made up my mind I would go for a hike and play with some long exposures.

Sam and Tara's wedding was amazing! We drove into the hills of Los Gatos to end up at Nestldown, a 180-acre private retreat. Angie and I fell in love the second we stepped out of the car. It was a photographers dream!

Camrynn Jayne Tampas

She is finally here! After much delay Camrynn Jayne Tampas has graced us with her presence. She is a beautiful, smiley, happy little girl. At 21.5 inches long it is no doubt she will soon be running laps around her parents. Matt and Brooke, from the bottom of our hearts, congratulations. Your love for her shines through every gentle touch and sweet kiss. Have so much fun.

Sacramento Wedding ~ Sarah & Simon

We had the privilege of photographing Simon and Sarah's wedding this past Saturday at Monte Verde Inn. It was the perfect summer evening. A breezy 80 degrees with clear blue skies. It couldn't have been more perfect, and they couldn't have been more beautiful. Enjoy the view.

Happy New Years! Dan and I celebrated in South Lake Tahoe with two dear friends, Eddie and Alex. We did everything from snowball fights to watching a mob of at least a thousand cheer in the new year. Here's a snippet of our adventures:

Engagement Session: Who, What, When, Where & Why?

We have received more and more questions regarding engagement sessions. Here is a little break down on what to look for in an engagement session and why they are not only popular, but important.

Who: Obviously, you an your fiance! I'd like to direct this more towards the photographer. Try to have your engagement session photographed with the photographer that is going to capture your wedding. This gives you and your photographer(s) a chance to get to know each other before the wedding. This bond can help a little bit with the nerves on the big day.

What: An engagement session is a portrait session of you and your fiance. Think of it as a date. You get to dress up however you want, use any props you want, and go any place you want! How you dress and the props you use should SCREAM your personality. They are usually about one to two hours long. If you are having trouble coming up with ideas, your photographer should be able to help you.

When: This is dependent upon what you will use the engagement images for. If you plan on using them for save the dates, then you should schedule the engagement session soon after you book your photographer to allow time to plan the shoot and for the images to be edited. If you are going to use them for personal use then take your time and schedule it no later than 4 months before the wedding. Don't schedule it too close to the wedding or you will be too stressed to enjoy the session!

Where: We usually suggest picking a location that means something to you two. Where you first met, where you first kissed, your first date, or even where you take your dogs for a walk! If the location has significance it will show in the imagery. It can be anything you want it to be!

Why: Wedding Photography is an important investment. An engagement session is an added bonus to that investment. It encourages the bond between you and your photographer. It gives you a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera before the big day. This session also gives you images other than you in your wedding dress and tux to hang on your wall. Don't be afraid to get creative and add variety to your images. This will be with you for years to come!

The right location for your wedding!

Choosing the right location for your wedding is important!

I know, seems obvious right? Let me explain. The location you choose for your ceremony and reception should reflect the personality of your wedding. When you do a walk through of the site, pay attention to the entirety of the surroundings i.e. coloring, walls, flooring, windows, lighting. Ask yourself, "Does this bring everything together?"

If photography is important to you, and staying on location is a must, then here are some things to look for when scouting for a location:

1. A Nice Window: A nice big window with no clutter around it is ALWAYS a plus.

2. Stone, Brick or Colored Walls: A nice way to increase dimension or make an image POP!

3. Family Portrait Space: A nice big open space with a clean wall or background. Pay attention to the lighting in this area also.

4. Stylized Ambiance/Decor: A stylized ambiance is fun to be in and fun to work with! Does it work with your theme?

5. Bridal Rooms: Do they offer rooms for booth the bride and groom to be in before the ceremony and for touch ups before the reception? Are they cute rooms?

6. Hotel? Suite Options: Do they offer you a discount on the suite? Look at it! Is it stylish? Good photography opportunities?

7. Outdoors: Landscaping and decor. Does it match your theme? When will everything be blooming? Any neat walls to work with?

8. Limitations: What are the limitations to the location? Are certain areas off limits?

9. Structures: Are there structures in place that might block viewing or photography opportunities throughout the ceremony or reception.

10. Giggle: Does it make you giggle with excitement? Then you might have found the right place.

Good luck in your adventure of wedding planning. Feel free to contact us with any questions regarding venues. We are not venue experts, but we have been to many Sacramento venues and can point you in the right direction. These recommendations are based on the perspectives of photographers. ;)

Nic and Sarah's Mountain Adventure

Nic and Sarah got hitched at the top of North Star in October. It was a gorgeous day to get married. They had a beautiful ceremony under one of the ski lifts. We walked down the mountain after the ceremony and captured some great shots! Enjoy!

We drove to San Francisco to meet Brad and Rina at the Palace of Fine Arts. It is so beautiful there. The fog didn't roll in that evening so we took advantage of the sun. At sunset we drove to Baker Beach to get some images with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. We could not have asked for a more perfect day.

These were a busy couple of days for us. The day before Brian and Katherine's wedding we took their engagement photos.

We got up before sunrise to get to this location. They wanted this view of the Los Padres National Forest with the sun coming up.

As we were driving back down to Santa Barbara from the top of the mountain the fog became really thick. We decided to take a few photographs with them out in the fog.

The wedding was at Elings Park just North of downtown Santa Barbara.

Brain and Katherine could not have asked for a more beautiful day.

May SWOP Meets Mixer

Daniel and I went to the May SWOP Meets mixer two weeks ago. This was our first SWOP Meets, and we were very impressed. It is so exciting to be apart of the wedding professional community. We enjoyed meeting so many new people.

The food at Il Fornaio was amazing, but the best part about the mixer was our surprise winnings! We had no idea when we walked in the door that we would be leaving with $500 cash! How it happened was pretty funny. We happened to get trapped behind the drawing. They had everyone's business cards in a clear bowl. We were sitting there watching her grab a business card. As she pulled it up I said, "Hey, that's our business card!" Before they could even announce the winner I was saying, "That's me, That's me!" The image below was taken by Anthony's Portraits. They captured us right after we received our surprise winnings!

Mommy & Me
